Years ago we went on vacation and met up with some friends at their cabin in the woods. It started to rain outside, which ended our outdoor adventure. So, six adults and five small children were stuck inside a one room cabin on a rainy day. Ooh, did I forget to mention that we didn't have any toys!

After a problematic beginning one of our friends retrieved a box of old silk scarves that she used in her work as a performance artist. Inquisitive little faces stared down into the box for a minute or two and then the magic happened. The next five hours were consumed with smiles and giggles, and acting and flying, and pirates and fairies, and forts and it was amazing. When the sun came out and we ventured outside, the silks came with us and the fun just continued all day and all evening long. We were years away from being parents at that time, but our first exposure to imagination-based toys solidified the revolution in our minds.

For children, playing is their job and it is serious business! It is through play that our children learn about themselves and their relationship with the world. It is through ascetically simple toys that the imagination is called on to create. And, an active imagination leads to problem solving, innovative thinking, and experiences that carry warm remembrance. There is no better toy available for simple play than the PlaySilk. A trademark of early Waldorf education, the PlaySilk is becoming better known to the wider public as that magical toy. Our Playsilks are hand-dyed using low-impact dyes. Please do not confuse our PlaySilks with other popular brands on the market. We use a heavier gage silk (8mm) which is more durable and more vibrant colors that give the silk a robust vivacious nature.

Our PlaySilks are can be hand or gentle machine-washed with a mild detergent. They are best hung to dry naturally and may be pressed with a medium hot brisk iron, if necessary.
